Ad Board 

The Springdale United Methodist Church is seeking church members to immediately fill vacancies on our Administrative Board (Ad Board).

Committees

The Springdale United Methodist Church is seeking any interested individual to fill spaces on our committees.

 

​

TRUSTEE (must be member of church)

Description:

     A total of three Trustees serve on the Ad Board for a 3-year term.  Trustees are tasked with overseeing, maintaining and supervising all local church property.  They will report annually to the Charge Conference on the state of the church's property, equipment, investments and resources.  They will receive and administer all gifts made to the congregation and will make certain that all trust funds are invested properly.  Trustees are also responsible for (in conjunction with the pastor) for monitoring all use of the church building and/or grounds, maintaining the proper level of insurance coverage and develop appropriate risk management policies.

       

Tasks & Focus:

  • Attend and participate in bi-monthly Board Meetings (last Wednesday of every odd month at 7:00 p.m.)

  • Assist in recruiting new members and other motivated volunteers to strengthen initiatives that are already in place, and to promote growth and the sharing of new ideas.

  • Approve and monitor the operational budget of SUMC.

  • Support SUMC's mission, vision and values through personal investment and active engagement.

  • Board members will actively participate in the implementation AND attendance of special activities and events of the church and to demonstrate leadership in action. 

STAFF-PARISH RELATIONS (must be member of church)

  Description:  

     Focus on building strong relationships between staff and the congregation as well as between the congregation and the district superintendent.

         

Tasks & Focus:

  • Encourage, strengthen, nurture, support and respect Pastor, staff and their families including advocating for a healthy work/life balance.

  • Promote unity in the church.

  • Confer with staff on effectiveness of ministry and impediments to effectiveness including conflict of interest and sexual misconduct.

  • Confer with staff on effective use of gifts, skills, time and priorities.

  • Conduct annual staff evaluations.

  • Teach congregation about itinerancy, steps into ordained ministry, the value of diversity in staffing and the ministerial education fund.

  • Write job descriptions for staff.

  • Confer with staff about continuing education and spiritual formation.

  • Confer with District Superintendent about clergy leadership for congregation.

  • Recommend staff positions to church council.

  • Create written personnel policies and sexual misconduct policies for congregation.  

  • Consult on matters of staff support including housing, vacation, insurance, pension, etc.

STEWARDSHIP (must be member of church)

Description:  

     Finance and fundraising.

Tasks & Focus:

  • Assist in recruiting new members and other motivated volunteers to strengthen initiatives that are already in place, and to promote growth and the sharing of new ideas.

  • Board members will actively participate in the implementation AND attendance of special activities and events of the church and to demonstrate leadership in action. 

LAY LEADERSHIP/DEVELOPMENT

Description:

     This group works with laity to train and develop potential leaders.  This group is also tasked with Ad Board nominations.

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION

Description:

     This group is tasked with coordinating the educational part of the church including, but not limited to, Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Confirmation (bi-annually) and annual events (sunrise service, Halloween party, Christmas program, etc.)

WORSHIP TEAM

  Description:  

     This team works with the pastor to develop worship themes and plans.  Included would be helping with song selection; helping plan/lead worship; decorating or creating visuals to supplement the sermon; developing skits to convey the message, assembling and printing bulletins and any necessary inserts, etc.  Also, work with technology for offering songs, video clips, etc. that can supplement worship service.  Communion Stewards are a sub-committee of this group.

Description:  

     This committee works on all areas listed in the title:  Outreach-connecting with community members; Missing-finding projects to support and help those less fortunate; Evangelism-sharing the Good News.

MEMORIAL

​

Description:  

     This team decides what items may be needed/purchased if the church receives any memorial money.

​

ALTAR/FLOWERS

Description:  

     This team works to keep the altar updated and looking good.  This includes coordinating the altar cloths to match the liturgical season, as well as decorating and changing any flowers or other decorations as appropriate for the season.

​

AUDIT

Description:  

     This team conducts an annual audit of the income and expenses of SUMC.

​

RECORDS/HISTORY

Description:  

     This team keeps track of various statistics for reporting and tracking, including but not limited to, attendance, Sunday School attendance, births, deaths, baptisms, new members.  Also tracking historical information such as major projects and pastoral changes.
